La Fiesta of the Red Rhinos I
Ms Baross says: "The painting series tell a story staring rhinos: When Cortez tries to conquer a small village in Mexico, the people dress as red rhinos and charge the army. Cortez and his army are so frightened by these red, bloated, dung covered animals they flee. Every year there is a fiesta to celebrate this ancient battle between the rhinos and the Aztec conquerer. I am the only outsider ever allowed to witness the fiesta."
"The highlights of the festival are the subject of the paintings, such as-The charge of the rhinos, the dance, the beauty pageant. They are painted in the wild colors of Mexican painters, with comic book graphics and some compositions are taken from Mexican murals. The story is pure fiction, of course."
