A Short Biography of Jan Baross


Since moving to the Northwest in 1967, Jan Baross has made over 40 documentary films, six animated films, numerous Public Service Announcements for television, worked on a couple of music videos and six feature films.
Her documentaries have aired on A&E, OPB and she has received awards for her productions. Over the course of her career, she has been a TV-film stringer for NBC, CBS affiliates.
As a playwright, Ms. Baross has written fifteen plays. She’s been produced Off Off Broadway, in the US and Mexico, received awards for her productions and had her plays published.
She was commissioned to turn her play, “Mata Hari”, into the libretto for an opera which premiered in Dallas, Texas and won an award.
Ms. Baross is a freelance film critic, travel and feature contributor for several newspapers and magazines in the US and Mexico. She's also contributed cartoons.
Her photographs have been published and she's had a number of shows.
Ms. Baross has taught filmmaking at Oregon State University, Seattle University’s Upward Bound, Portland Artists in the Schools. She has also taught art in pre-school in Seattle and San Francisco.
Most recently Ms. Baross has completed a novel, “Jose Builds a Woman”. She’s working on a travel book series and preparing for a one woman show of her painting at ARtist Rep Theatre.
